| | | West Coast to East Coast and South to North and back again, I was born and raised in Southern California and lived in Southern Pines for thirteen years before moving to Toronto Canada. It was love for horses that prompted my move from Southern California to Southern Pines NC. Trading four legs for cycling led to meeting my Canadian husband who came to Southern Pines annually to train for Ironman Triathlons. I was off to Toronto for fifteen busy years of real estate, raising two daughters, Scouting (it is co-ed in Canada) and house renovations. A visit back to Southern Pines in early 2008 led to a house purchase and an almost year long process of moving our Canadian family including the two Jack Russell’s to Southern Pines. After city living, Southern Pines is a wonderful place to call home and raise a family.
Cycling, jogging, yoga and attending church, restoring their 1930’s home, travelling and golf are all interests the Hankey family are trying to find time for. There is so much to do and enjoy, it gets hard to choose how to spend the leisure and family time!
Greening the community is a project near to my heart, I am currently working with the principal and parents at the school our daughters’ attend to make it environmentally friendly. A new addition to my volunteer activities has been joining the Emmanuel environmental committee. Green is the new purple!
International real estate experience, long distance moves, and understanding how all of this affects children and family is something that I keenly understand. The joy of living in such a special community is something I look forward to sharing with others considering a local move or a long distance one.
